3 Ways to Participate in Educator Innovation Month

Get ready for the 2021-2022 school year feeling inspired, prepared, and reinvigorated with a month of a-la-carte programming so you can pick what works best for your learning community.

This July, learn and grow from one another at your leisure by choosing your own educational adventure with opportunities like professional learning communities, a week of inspiring panels, and a global 24-hour PD Palooza

Read on to get the details and make your selections.

1) Professional Learning Communities - All Month Long

PLCs are a great way to lean into specific topics, do asynchronous learning, and come together weekly with your peers to dissect and discuss.  Sessions are currently closed, but we hope you can join us for the global 24-hour PD Palooza happening on July 27th!

PLC #1: Anti-Racism Journey for Educators led by Jornea Armant

Description: Join a Professional Learning Community (PLC) to learn during your journey to dismantle racism within learning environments. We will collectively build knowledge and capability needed to support equity and anti-racist work with students using the Microsoft Educator Community Learning Path: Anti-Racism Journey for Educators with Students. Get ready to deeply question power, privilege, and fragility to interrupt teaching practices that marginalize, isolate, and exclude BIPOC students in the classroom and beyond.

Synchronous Meeting Dates: Mondays at 3-3:30 pm CT (July 12, 19, 26, Aug 2)

Sign up here: Session is now closed.

PLC #2: Understanding, Valuing and Supporting Learners with Dyslexia led by Ann Kozma

Description: Join in as we learn more about dyslexia and explore best practices to understand, value, and support learners with dyslexia. As part of this cohort, you will learn what dyslexia is, gain insight on best practices for a dyslexia-inclusive classroom and gain easy-to-implement tools and strategies to help transform outcomes for students. We will learn together, broaden our perspectives, and walk away with new ways to help empower students, grow their confidence, and celebrate their strengths!

Synchronous Meeting Dates: Mondays at 3-3:30 pm CT (July 12, 19, 26, Aug 2)

PLC #3: A Talk to Teachers (an in-depth exploration of James Baldwin’s work) led by special guest Professor James Ponzo, University of Buffalo

Description: Look at the life and works of the intellectual, literary giant, and cultural critic James Baldwin. Over the course of his life, Baldwin dedicated himself to illuminating the experiences of African Americans, especially focusing on the devastating impact of racial oppression on their everyday lives. The main goals of this class will be to investigate these issues that Baldwin discussed, but also to use what we learn in order to become more effective teachers in light of the racial climate that currently exists in our society.

Synchronous Meeting Dates: Wednesdays at 6 - 6:30 pm CT (July 7, 14, 21, 28)

Sign up here: Session is now closed.

PLC #4: Language Development and ESL Strategies led by Fely García López

Description: In this learning space, educators will be guided through a series of best practices that help address language development in the classroom. Coupled with ESL learning strategies and instructional activities, participants will be able to design learning experiences to help students acquire a second language.
